LASIK Consultations & Pre/Post-Operative Care

LASIK

Wearing corrective lenses is the most common way of correcting refractive errors in your vision and improving your sight. If you’re tired of wearing glasses, however, there are alternative vision correction treatments, one of which is LASIK surgery. Through LASIK surgery, your eye doctor reshapes the cornea of your eye to give you clearer sight. At Rice Family Vision in Duncan, we offer LASIK surgery co-management services and can help you determine if you’re a good candidate for this treatment.

Qualifications for LASIK

LASIK surgery corrects visual problems caused by myopia, farsightedness, and astigmatism, eliminating your need for contacts or glasses to improve your vision. Not everyone, however, qualifies for this procedure. Ideal candidates for LASIK meet the following qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • No prescription changes within a year of having surgery
  • Good eye health with no pre-existing eye diseases or conditions
  • Good general health
  • Not pregnant or nursing

Before recommending LASIK surgery, your Duncan optometrist will examine your eyes to confirm your eye health and vision. We’ll scan your eyes and check for signs of eye infections, conditions, or diseases that would impair the outcome of your LASIK treatment. We’ll also measure the cornea of your eye and check for irregularities that could make you a poor candidate for this treatment.

Benefits of LASIK Surgery

With LASIK surgery, you no longer need to depend on contacts or prescription eyewear to enjoy optimal vision. Not everyone receives 20/20 vision from this treatment, but everyone acknowledges a marked improvement in their sight after their procedure. Some of the major benefits of LASIK are:

  • Quick results
  • Quick recovery, enabling you to return to your normal schedule within a day or two after treatment
  • Permanent vision improvement, although you may experience visual changes as you grow older
  • Less dependency on contact lenses and prescription glasses to see properly

LASIK Surgery Co-Management

Your Duncan optometry specialist offers pre and post-op care for LASIK surgery. We’ll test your eyes to ensure you meet the qualifications for this procedure and help you find a qualified ophthalmologist to perform your treatment. Once you’ve had your surgery, your Duncan optometrist will monitor your recovery. Although LASIK provides almost instant visual results, your vision will continue to improve over the next few weeks and months. Through scheduled eye checkups, we’ll monitor your post-op vision and make sure there are no complications to your recovery.
